Wildlife Management Biologist

It is with great pleasure that I have joined the Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board as Wildlife Management Biologist II. After several years consulting on wildlife research projects in Eeyou Istchee, it was time for me to take a deeper dive and I hope my previous experience will serve the communities of the Eeyou Marine Region well. My life in Canada started in 2015 in Montréal, where I did my PhD studying the impact of human activities on urban wildlife. From there, I followed the St. Lawrence River out of the city, and I fell in love with Canada’s “backyard”. I have been fortunate to visit some extraordinary places across Canada, including remote islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, on the Atlantic coast, and in the Hudson Bay. Of course, I can’t forget the eastern shore of James Bay and the people who live there. I bring ten years of experience working with seabirds and waterfowl, such as Canada geese and common eiders. Although most of my work is framed in academic research, I have always investigated wildlife-related topics that are strongly anchored in current environmental problematics, such as pollution and habitat modification. I tend to develop multidisciplinary approaches, finding innovative ways to merge biology and wildlife behavior to geomatic, environmental physics and chemistry, and more recently indigenous traditional ecological knowledge. Over the years, I have collaborated with several partners from different backgrounds, including the Canadian Wildlife Service, the Niskamoon Corporation, and Eeyou land users. This broadened the perspective of my work I believe this is where my interest in wildlife management originates. The EMRWB has an important role to play in furthering knowledge and ensuring the health of wildlife populations and ecosystems important to the Cree throughout this region. I am honored to dedicate my skills to this mandate.
