Amendment to the Nunavik Beluga Public Hearing Notice
Notice is provided on December 19th, 2019 that the Nunavik Marine Region Wildlife Board (NMRWB) and Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board (EMRWB) have made amendments to the Notice of Public Hearing released on November 22nd, 2019. Updates include the list of Parties to the Hearing, and changes to the submission deadline.
Information presented in the original Public Hearing Notice will remain in effect with the exception of additions or changes listed herein. For greater clarity, if any information in this notice of amendment is in conflict with the originally posted notice, the information in this amendment will apply.
Hearing Dates (unchanged): January 21st – 23rd, 2020
Location of the Hearing (unchanged): The hearing will take place in Kuujjuaraapik, Quebec.
Party Status and Submissions (updates in bold italics): The parties to this hearing include the following:
- a) Makivik Corporation
- b) The Regional Nunavimmi Umajulirijiit Katujiqatigininga (RNUK)
- c) The 15 Local Nunavimmi Umajulirijiit Katujiqatigininga (LNUKs)
- d) Any Nunavik Inuk
- e) The Government of Canada
- f) The Government of Nunavut
- g) The Nunatsiavut Government
- h) Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated
- i) The Cree Nation Government / The Grand Council of Crees (Eeyou-Istchee)
- j) The Cree Trappers’ Association (CTA)
- k) The local CTAs of Chisasibi and Whapmagoostui
- l) The Cree Nations of Chisasibi and Whapmagoostui
- m) Any individual Cree
- n) The Sanikiluaq Hunters and Trappers Organization (HTO)
The Boards invite those parties listed above to file written submissions and supporting documents relating to the TAT or NQLs for beluga in the NMR by no later than 5:00 PM on January 10th, 2020. Translations of submissions are due one week later, by 5:00 PM on January 17th, 2020.
Written submissions must be filed in English and Inuktitut, and optionally in French (documents more than 10 pages in length do not require translation, but must be accompanied by a detailed summary in Inuktitut and English). Translations are not required for supporting documents, although translated summaries are encouraged. The requirement for translation does not apply to individual Nunavik Inuit. Submissions may be sent electronically (preferred) or by fax to the following coordinates:
